RUBANDA, UGANDA – Police in Rubanda district have rescued a young mother and her one-month-old infant, following a tragic domestic incident that culminated in an apparent suicide by hanging.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Following a domestic altercation with his wife, Ahimbisibwe Lelia, Barnabas Mugabe, 37, was found dead yesterday evening, having hanged himself in the corridor of his home.
According to a reliable source, the incident began on November 3, 2025, when a domestic dispute escalated, prompting the wife, Ahimbisibwe Lelia, to report the case at Hamurwa Police Station. She then proceeded to Kakore Health Centre II for treatment.
The proactive action of the family matriarch proved crucial the following morning when she arrived at her son’s home and found the crying one-month-old baby alone outside.
Recognizing the potential danger, she quickly went to the nearby Karukara Trading Centre to summon help from community members to safely retrieve the infant.
Tragically, upon returning with help, they discovered that Mugabe had hanged himself with a rope in the corridor of the home.
Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, stating that police were called, examined the scene, and documented their findings and after a medical examination, the body was released to the family for burial.
“We commend the bravery of Ahimbisibwe Lelia in reporting the violence and the quick thinking of the grandmother. We want to remind the public that the Police and other organizations are available to assist those in situations of domestic strife,” Maate stated.
As authorities continue their inquiries into the matter, community leaders are urging residents to seek mediation and counseling to resolve domestic issues before they escalate.
