Kasese, Uganda – Police in Kasese have issued a stern warning to drivers and all road users to strictly adhere to road safety regulations, particularly with increased traffic expected during the school closure period, stressing that violators will face arrest and prosecution.
The warning follows recurring accident incidents in the region that have claimed lives and left several people hospitalized with severe injuries, highlighting a growing crisis in road safety.
The most recent tragedy occurred on Friday, 15th August 2025, along the Kasese-Mbarara Road at Kyababinga Trading Centre in Kasese Municipality.
The incident involved a Toyota Wish (UBE 795/T) traveling from Kasese to Bwera Town, with preliminary reports indicating the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn and roll multiple times.
Several passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to different hospitals within Kasese Municipality for urgent medical attention.
This accident comes barely a day after another fatal crash in the same district on Thursday, 14th August, which claimed the lives of two individuals: Mbusa David Remigius and Maate Mathias, a Senior One student.
The victims were traveling from Ntungamo to Kasese when the accident occurred, leaving others with serious injuries.
According to the Rwenzori East Region Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, the consecutive tragedies have raised concerns over road safety in the region, prompting an urgent need for stricter adherence to traffic regulations.
“With schools closing, we urge all drivers, motorists, and pedestrians to strictly adhere to Road Safety Regulations as prescribed by law. Failure to comply will result in arrest and prosecution in courts of law,” stated SP Nelson Tumushime.
Investigations into the causes of the latest crash are ongoing as the community mourns yet another devastating incident on its roads.
