Minister Musasizi Launches Re-election Bid, Highlights Key Achievements in Rubanda East

State Minister of Finance, Henry Musasizi, has officially launched his campaign to seek re-election as Member of Parliament for Rubanda East, outlining key accomplishments from his third term in office.

Musasizi, who also serves as the Rubanda District NRM Chairperson, kicked off his campaign in his home village Bushure, located in Mpungu Parish, Hamurwa Sub-county.

He emphasized that his campaign would be program-driven, focusing on the milestones achieved during his tenure and his future development plans for the constituency, which he has represented in Parliament for the last 14 years.

Among his notable achievements during the 2021–2026 term, Musasizi highlighted securing over UGX 500 million to rehabilitate Hamurwa Health Centre IV, which has since become the top-ranked health facility of its kind in the Kigezi Sub-region.

With support from the Bank of Uganda, the facility underwent substantial upgrades, including the expansion of the maternity ward with modern beds, renovation of the operating theatre, construction of roofed walkways, and installation of blood storage equipment which will be officially unveiled on June 20, 2025.

Musasizi also cited progress in the education sector. By 2025, Mpungu Parish alone hosted four primary schools. Through his lobbying efforts, the government allocated UGX 150 million for the construction of new classroom blocks at Keerere Primary School, with another UGX 150 million set aside for similar work at Kaburara Primary School in the upcoming financial year.

In addition, through the Rubanda District Local Government, school infrastructure worth UGX 1 billion will be developed at St. John’s Secondary School, Ikumba.

The minister listed several roads that were non-existent at the time of his first election in 2011, including the Rutooma–Hamuyivi–Kandenzya and Kyondo–Nyakatare–Kisiizi roads in Hamurwa Sub-county, which have since been developed.

Musasizi stated that he has used his dual role as MP and Minister to lobby for multiple development initiatives in Rubanda East, including rural electrification and the Parish Development Model (PDM) program, which he helped conceptualize.

“We brought electricity to Nyamasizi, but some areas remain unconnected. Similarly, some people have received PDM loans, while others haven’t. So we’re asking for more time to ensure these services reach every corner,” he said.

Musasizi acknowledged the problematic section of  the Hamurwa–Keerere–Kanungu highway, locally referred to as “Road Toll.” He assured constituents that the Ministry of Works and Transport would soon undertake emergency repairs.

“I recently met with officials from the Ministry of Works and Ms. Alison Abenawe, former UNRA Station Manager for Kabale, and we agreed to treat the flooded section of the road as an emergency,” Musasizi stated.
