The accused was brought before the court on Friday, May 16, 2025, by the Anti-Graft Squad, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Akello Migisha, along with others, including former Magistrate Cissy Mudhasi, allegedly orchestrated a scheme to defraud the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council. Migisha has been remanded to prison until June 17, 2025.

The group purportedly produced and used falsified legal documents to irregularly obtain an arbitral award from court and unlawfully obtained over UGX 444.3 million.

The accused allegedly claimed to have been contracted by UNMC to develop a software and database application, which the Council failed to pay for.

This fictitious contract led to a court process that resulted in an irregularly issued garnishee order.

The order was then used to attach the Council’s account, from which the accused and his accomplices stole the aforementioned amount.

The case highlights the seriousness of the allegations and the commitment of the Anti-Graft Squad, CID, and ODPP to investigate and prosecute cases of corruption and fraud.
