Seven of the survivors received care at Mulago’s isolation unit, while one was treated at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital. Each survivor received a certificate confirming their recovery.

According to Health Minister Dr. Ruth Aceng, the discharged patients are part of a larger group of individuals being monitored for the virus. Currently, 265 people remain under 21-day quarantine in Kampala, Jinja, and Mbale.

The outbreak in Uganda is linked to the Sudan strain of Ebola, for which there is no approved vaccine available and to combat the spread, authorities have implemented strict containment measures.

This development marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s efforts to contain the outbreak, which was declared on January 30, 2025.

The country has experienced several Ebola outbreaks in the past, with the most recent one being the sixth outbreak of the Sudan ebola virus.
