KAMPALA, UGANDA; Former Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and Resident City Commissioners (RCCs) in Uganda are threatening to abandon the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and join opposition parties.

The Former RDCs and RCCs Association has been trying to secure a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni to discuss the issue, but their efforts have been unsuccessful.
The association’s leaders claim that they were unfairly dropped from their positions after the 2021 general elections without a clear explanation, despite their diligent service.
The development comes as a surprise, given the NRM’s history of attracting opposition defectors as in 2022, 2 former opposition MPs, Hon. Caxton Etii and Hon. Kenneth Eitungunane, joined the NRM, praising its ideological principles and development programs.
The Former RDCs and RCCs Association’s ultimatum echoes similar threats made by other disgruntled groups, including former FDC members who defected to the NRM.
These individuals have also complained about unfulfilled pledges and are demanding the president’s intervention.
It remains to be seen how the NRM will respond to these demands and whether the Former RDCs and RCCs Association will follow through on their threat to join the opposition.
