KAMPALA-UGANDA: The Uganda Police’s Traffic Directorate has introduced new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to guide traffic officers’ interactions with drivers on the road.

Key Guidelines:
* Respect for Drivers; Drivers must stay seated in their vehicles during interactions with police officers.
* Omnibus Inspections; For medium and heavy omnibuses, officers will enter the vehicle to detect potential offenses and sensitize passengers.
* Offender Escort Protocol; Officers are prohibited from sitting in an offender’s vehicle unless escorting them to a police station.
* Transparent Interactions; All interactions between police officers and drivers must be transparent and conducted in the presence of passengers.
* Heavy Goods Vehicle Protocol; When engaging with drivers of heavy goods vehicles, officers must approach the driver’s door exclusively.
To guarantee accountability, the Uganda Police has designated a contact number, 0773815326, for reporting any violations of the set procedures by traffic officers.
In case of any complaint, the In-Charge Alert Squad is responsible for disciplining traffic officers who fail to adhere to these guidelines.
