Gov’t on Course to Revive Tea Prices.

KANUNGU: President Gen. Museveni has called on Tea Farmers to notice proper agronomic practices during the harvest period to fetch attractive prices in the Tea market.

The president was on Friday officiating at the Annual International Community of Banyakigezi (ICOB) 2024 Convention, a gathering held at Meizimera Hotel in Kihihi, Kanungu District.

The ICOB 2024 Convention was held under the theme; “Building Partnerships for Social Economic Transformation.”

At the event, the Minister of ICT & National Guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi raised a concern over the Tea prices which have recently dropped to unacceptable levels.

Minister Baryomunsi also the Kinkizi East Legislator explained that the Fall in Tea prices which is basically for local farmers is a challenge as many families depend on it to earn a living and develop families.

In his response President Museveni said that the solution to have Tea prices back on its stand shall soon be found, as there are plans to hold Joint meetings with Kigezi tea farmers over the matter at a time in future.

The President further advised the Banyakegezi under the International Community of Banyakigezi (ICOB) to proceed cautiously with the Banyakigezi initiative to avoid making mistakes.

President Museveni said that an over-emphasis on tribes or origins can undermine Uganda’s socio-economic transformation and progress.

President of Uganda Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni added that the ruling NRM has consistently emphasized the mass-line principle over the elite-line, ensuring that no one is left behind.

‘The NRM government has brought initiatives like mass immunization that have contributed to Uganda’s population growing to 46 million, alongside other programs such as Bonna Basome and later, Bonna Bagagawale—Prosperity for All.”President noted.

The International Community of Banyakigezi (ICOB) Convention is an event that brings together members of the Banyakigezi diaspora and those in Uganda, with an emphasis on community development and national issues.
