The body of a person in his mid-20s was found in a decomposing state in Mpasha Parish, Rukiri Sub-county in Ibanda District on Friday, October 9th, 2026, at 1:00 PM on a farm.

The decomposing body was discovered by a child who was collecting firewood from the farm of Mwongyera Beatrice, who later informed the local council leadership, which alerted the police.

The Rwizi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Samson Kasasira, confirmed to the press that officers responded to the scene of crime and found the decomposing body at the edge of the farm, which borders a swamp.

Samson Kasasira noted that the scene was carefully documented and the body was later conveyed to Ruhoko Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

Investigators have, however, observed that the body had stayed at the scene for about a week, still dressed in a pair of tight trousers without a shirt, and is alleged to have been murdered elsewhere and dumped at the scene.

“Our officers observed that the body had stayed at the scene for about a week. It was still dressed in a pair of tight trousers without a shirt, and is alleged to have been murdered elsewhere and dumped at the scene,” Kasasira noted.

The police have since confirmed that inquiries into the incident are still ongoing to identify the deceased and establish the motive of the killers.
