RUKUNGIRI – The driver has tragically died in a road accident following a late-night weekend devastating crash along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo Road in Rukungiri District.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The sole occupant and driver of a Toyota Sienta (UA 925BL), identified as Onesmus Natukunda, tragically lost his life in the incident that occurred around 9:50 PM on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
Reliable sources indicate that while navigating the stretch of road at Rwabigangura Kebisoni, Natukunda lost control of the vehicle, leading to multiple overturns that tragically resulted in his death on the spot.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Tumushime Nelson confirmed that emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene, though the severity of the crash left no chance for survival.
He extended the force’s deepest condolences to the bereaved family and friends, while urging all road users to treat the tragedy as a sobering reminder of life’s fragility on the roads.
The Police spokesperson, Nelson Tumushime, further called on motorists to maintain roadworthy vehicles, comply with all traffic regulations, and refrain from overspeeding and dangerous overtaking while on the road.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and extend our condolences to the family. Following this tragedy, we urge all motorists to keep vehicles roadworthy, obey traffic rules, avoid overspeeding, and treat the incident as a reminder of life’s fragility on the roads,” said SP Tumushime.
Police have since confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing, with the vehicle towed to the police station for thorough inspection to establish the exact cause of the accident.
