KANUNGU – The Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has warned against the perils of sectarianism, passionately calling for unity and social cohesion among the local community.

The late Johnson, who had been the LC III Chairperson of Katete Sub-county, died at the age of 57 on August 2, 2026, and was laid to rest on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at his ancestral home in Kirembe Village, Katete Parish, Katete Sub-county.
Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi urged the people of Kanungu to reject sectarian divisions and embrace unity, emphasizing that religious institutions are meant to foster love and harmony rather than conflict.

He called upon residents to channel their energies into collective action for the district’s advancement, cautioning that any form of fragmentation inevitably undermines sustainable progress and shared prosperity for every citizen.
The Minister further pledged closer collaboration with local leaders to enhance healthcare and essential services, reassuring communities of the government’s commitment to reaching every corner of Kanungu.

Speaking on behalf of the district local leaders, Vice Chairperson Joshua Rukundo described the late Turyahikayo as a hardworking and dedicated leader whose commitment to community development was unmatched.
During a special council session convened to honor the late leader, the District Council, led by the Deputy Speaker Comfort Kashemire, resolved to name the Katete–Nyaruhanga Road after him, a lasting legacy to commemorate his remarkable contributions.
Delivering the sermon, Canon Rev. Ven. Herbert Kiconco, the Archdeacon of Kihiihi Archdeaconry, commended the district leaders for the gesture of appreciating the good works done by the deceased.
Ven. Kiconco further challenged leaders to extend recognition to leaders while still alive and called on the mourners to reflect on their own lives, urging them to repent and prepare for eternal life.

The late Hon. Johnson Turyahikayo Friday passed away at Mbarara Referral Hospital after a prolonged battle with high blood pressure spanning over two years.
Hundreds of residents, officials, and dignitaries gathered at the funeral to mourn a leader remembered for his humility and tireless work ethic, leaving behind a lasting legacy of service and dedication to his community.
