KAMPALA – The Minister of Internal Affairs, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, has emphasised that Uganda’s security architecture fundamentally depends on a disciplined, well-empowered, and adequately resourced police service.

Accompanied by senior police commanders, Minister Prof. Kamuntu inspected key police facilities, including the ICT Directorate, FFU barracks, Forensic Services, and the National Command and Control Centre.
He also visited the Counter-Terrorism Directorate and inspected newly constructed accommodation blocks, underscoring his interest in both operational readiness and officer welfare.
The Minister lauded the Uganda Police Force for its visible progress, reiterating that the nation’s security architecture depends on a disciplined, empowered, and well-resourced police service.
“A well-equipped, well-trained, and adequately facilitated police force is non-negotiable if we are to achieve our national security goals,” Kamuntu stated.
He reiterated the government’s resolve to enhance crime prevention infrastructure, uplift officers’ living standards, and fast-track career advancement, assurances that were warmly received by the top management.
IGP Abas Byakagaba expressed profound gratitude for the Minister’s hands-on engagement and provided a candid briefing on the Force’s strategic priorities and persistent operational challenges.
He highlighted logistical constraints and emerging cyber threats while also outlining ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing service delivery and strengthening public trust.
“We appreciate the Minister’s interest in our operations and the challenges we encounter daily. We briefed him on our strategic direction, our resource needs, and the reforms we are driving to strengthen service delivery and community confidence,” Byakagaba remarked.
The security of Uganda is a collective responsibility, and the Police Force has a steadfast and reliable partner in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, committed to supporting its work.
