Angry Mob Lynches Suspected Cow thief under their custody after his fellows ran into hiding.

RUKIGA: Police in Rukiga registered an alleged murder by mob incident of one Gideon Arinda 22 a resident of Nyaruhanga cell Kitanga parish in Rwamucucu Sub County.

According to the Police report, the incident happened at around 11:00 AM on Friday at Nyamiko cell, Noozi parish, Rwamucucu Sub County.

It’s alleged that on the night of 14th June 2024 at about 4:00 Am, the deceased and other three suspects stole two cows of Byaruhanga Patrick alias Kabete of Kanyabutengye in Noozi and took them to Kyobugombe market in Kabale District to sell them. 

While in the market, the deceased and his three associates failed to produce relevant documents concerning the two cows that they wanted to sell which made people suspect them to have stolen them. 

They were tasked to lead people upto where they got the cows from which they accepted and on their way, the three suspects managed to escape which made the angry mob kill the remaining Arinda Gideon the now deceased.

ASP Elly Maate police was notified by James Kyanyaganunu, the scene of crime was visited, documented and statements recorded from witnesses before conveying the body to Kabale regional hospital for postmortem.

The police spokesperson further advised the communities to desist from taking laws into their own hands and resort to legal means of handling suspected criminals.

“People should desist from lawlessness, and resort to legal means of handling suspected criminals by involving the police so that they are arraigned before courts of law to defend themselves” said Elly Maate.

Maate added that the deceased’s body was handed to the relatives for burial arrangements as inquiries are underway with the statement on Murder by mob registered on RKG CRB 224/2024.
