MASINDI – The Minister of Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, has threatened to intensify the ongoing anti-corruption exposé campaign, amid growing fears of his political opponents scheming to bring him down.

The Minister made the remarks during a thanksgiving service at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Masindi, West Rwenzori Diocese, where he delivered a brand-new Land Cruiser to Emeritus Bishop Joshua Kugonza as a gift from President Museveni.

The Minister vowed to press forward with his anti-graft campaign amid growing unease over his political survival, despite warnings that rivals may resort to blackmail or force to unseat him.

Balaam Barugahara drew inspiration from David’s biblical defiance against the giant Goliath, declaring that his authority rests not in carnal weapons but in divine supremacy.

“Those who do not like my work will use blackmail and even guns to try to bring me down, but I do not care. I will be like David in the Bible. You may come with the sword or the shield, but I will come against you in the name and power of the Lord,” Minister Balaam declared.

Minister Balaam called upon the faith community to steadfastly support the “Expose the Corrupt” campaign, aligning with the government’s shared commitment to accountability, integrity, and quality service for Ugandans.

He reaffirmed his unwavering resolve to build a transparent and responsive Local Government system, eliminate misuse of public resources, and ensure that every taxpayer receives value for money.

“No amount of character assassination, blackmail, intimidation, or witchcraft will deter us from this mission. Our resolve to expose corruption, eliminate the misuse of public resources, and restore integrity in local government institutions remains unwavering,” the Minister added.

During the service, the Bishop of West Rwenzori Diocese, Rt. Rev. Barnabas Tibaijuka, endorsed Minister Balaam’s unwavering commitment to rooting out corruption in Uganda’s local government system.

The Bishop acknowledged the fierce opposition that often accompanies those who dare to confront deeply entrenched systems of graft and misconduct.

He noted that while other ministers may not be pleased with Barugahara’s confrontational approach, the young minister should stand firm and fight for the right course of delivering Uganda from the clutches of corruption.

“Our dear Minister, thank you for the work you are doing. Be assured of our prayers until we redeem our country. You have created many enemies because you are touching many wounds,” Bishop Tibaijuka declared.

The service, which brought together three Anglican Bishops and the Most Rev. Emeritus Archbishop Stanley Ntagali, marked a significant moment of solidarity between the Church and a government official committed to transparency and accountability.

The service reinforced the strong partnership between faith leaders and government in advancing national efforts to fight corruption, strengthen transparency, and improve service delivery.
