KASESE – The territorial police of Kasese have netted 46 suspected criminals in a sweeping, intelligence-led crackdown across several cells in the Municipal Central Division on Saturday.

According to the Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Maate Elly, the operation was supervised by the Kasese Police Division Commander (DPC), SP H. Hiwumbire, and commanded by ASP Lukol, the Officer-in-Charge of Nyakasanga Police Station.
Maate confirmed that the operation was precipitated by a comprehensive intelligence analysis that revealed alarming trends in crime rates and a growing public outcry from residents.
The police spokesperson added that intelligence uncovered the resurgence of the “Gaza group,” a local criminal syndicate specializing in robberies, burglary, theft, and bag-snatching from night travelers.
“The operation followed an intelligence analysis on the rates of crime and public outcry, which revealed the regrouping of criminal gangs commonly known as the Gaza group,” stated Elly Maate.
The suspects have been formally charged with the offenses of common nuisance and possession of opium, respectively, and are currently pending screening as the legal process unfolds.
Police have assured the public that thorough investigations will be conducted to determine the full extent of each suspect’s criminal involvement, while emphasizing that this operation is not a one-off event.
