KABALE – Police in Kabale have apprehended a young woman on suspicion of brutally killing her own two-year-old child and then throwing the little body into a stream.

Reliable sources indicate that local residents became worried in the morning of Friday, May 15, 2026, after realizing that the suspect was walking around without her young child.
After noticing the child had been missing since the night before, the locals reported the matter to their local chairperson, who asked the suspect where her child was. She could not give an answer.
The locals then started searching and found children’s clothes dumped inside a toilet where the suspect lived, which became too suspicious, implying that the woman had harmed her own child.
The chairperson quickly notified the police, after which officers arrested the suspect. She then confessed to having killed her child and thrown the body into a water stream in Butobere.
The Kigezi police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that a team of officers, including the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), the Homicide team, the fire brigade, and others, went to the scene.
The team searched the water and recovered the child’s lifeless body. It was retrieved and taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police say investigations are still ongoing to uncover the motive behind this heartbreaking crime, as they work to understand what drove the mother to take the life of her own young child.
