KAMPALA – The Office of the Inspector General of Government (IGG) has confirmed that former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, is now under official investigation over allegations that she breached Uganda’s Leadership Code Act.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The development was confirmed by the IGG, Justice Aisha Batala Naluzze, who said that her office has received a petition seeking a probe into the wealth and conduct of the Bukedea Woman MP, Anita Annet Among.
The IGG confirmed that a group of Kampala lawyers filed a petition against Hon. Among on May 13, 2026, accusing her of violating the Leadership Code Act. That law requires all senior public officials to fully declare their income, assets, and debts every two years.
The lawyers argue that the former Speaker either failed to declare her full wealth, omitting it from official records, or knowingly submitted an incomplete declaration that did not reflect the full extent of her assets.
Justice Naluzze confirmed that her office received the petition, is processing the case, and that the matter is going through administrative and legal procedures before full investigations begin.
“We have received the complaint against the former Speaker, and our office is now processing it through the required legal steps. Once our investigations are complete, we will share the findings with the public,” confirmed Justice Naluzze.
Under the Leadership Code Act, any leader who fails to declare their assets can face serious penalties, including dismissal from office and loss of the undeclared wealth.
This is not the first time Speaker Among has faced questions about her wealth. Both the United Kingdom and the United States imposed sanctions on her in 2024 over corruption allegations, freezing her assets and banning her from travel.
More recently, public debate grew louder after reports linked Ms. Among to a luxury Rolls-Royce worth about 3.4 billion Ugandan shillings, raising concerns about how senior officials accumulate such wealth.
