KISORO, UGANDA – SC Volcanoes FC have bolstered their squad with seven new signings as the club intensifies its push for promotion from the FUFA Western Regional League to the Uganda Big League next season.

The flurry of transfer activity was confirmed by club president Dr. Martin Mbonye, who stated that all new recruits have put pen to paper on short-term contracts running until the end of the current campaign.

The Kisoro-based side has taken the region by storm this year, and with the club president emphasizing that contract extensions will be contingent on performance, a high level of motivation is ensured within the squad.

The team has also made waves on the national stage with a commendable run in the Uganda Cup, where their journey was eventually halted in the Round of 32.

The New Recruits

To add depth and experience across all departments for the decisive phase of the season, the club has secured the following players:

· Derrick Ikooza (aka “Neymar”) – Left Back, formerly of Six O’clock FC (Bushenyi)

· Francis Ndahura (aka “April”) – Left Winger, from Six O’clock FC (Bushenyi)

· Samari Faruku – Attacking Midfielder, from Kuluva Rainbow FC (Arua District)

· Emmanuel Ogwang – Attacking Midfielder, from MYDA FC (Mbale)

· Magende Benon (“Ben”) – Defensive Midfielder, from Synergy FC (Masaka)

· Alijuna Benard – Central Defender, from Ntinda United FC (Kampala)

· Kayongo Shaban – Striker, from Nantabirwa FC (Mukono)

The team boss, Dr. Mbonye, confirmed the departure of several players who have moved on to pursue new opportunities, including McDonald Buule and Wulusimbi Muhamad.

The list also features Iradukunda Esau, Ofwono Jotham, Shafik Kabugo, Kwiringira Timothy, and Ivan Akatwijuka, with the club wishing them well in their future endeavors.

While the new signings have reported to camp and begun integrating with the squad under head coach Patrick Ochan, fans will have to wait a little longer to see most of them in action.

Coach Ochan confirmed that the club is awaiting the completion of playing licenses for the majority of the new arrivals, noting that the players are already training hard as paperwork is finalized.

He revealed that only two of the seven, Emmanuel Ogwang and Derrick Ikooza, have been officially cleared so far, with the rest expected to be available for selection once formal clearance is received from the relevant authorities.

“The players are here and training hard, but we are still finalizing the paperwork. All necessary procedures have been completed by the club. We are just waiting for formal clearance from the relevant authorities, and then the rest will be available for selection,” Ochan explained.

The timing of the squad reinforcement is critical, as SC Volcanoes are set to return to league action on March 10, 2026, with a formidable away test against Kihihi Young Boys at the Kihihi High School Playground in Kanungu District.

With the momentum of a title chase behind them and a strengthened squad at their disposal, the encounter promises to be a pivotal moment in the Western Regional League season.
