“As the Diocese continues to expand its ministry, we shall consecrate four new parishes and one archdeaconry in December this year, and I call upon all Christians to support the establishment of more churches, for our efforts should focus on multiplying places of worship rather than increasing bars and lodges,” Bishop Nathan noted.
The announced new parishes include Rwengoma in Ruhaama Archdeaconry, Kyajeere and Kigaaga in Rukanda Archdeaconry, and Bubaare in Kitwe Archdeaconry, while All Saints Church Rubaare is slated to be elevated to an archdeaconry.
The development will increase the number of parishes in South Ankole Diocese from 73 to 77 and archdeaconries from 14 to 15, marking a significant step in the Diocese’s continued growth and expansion.
Bishop Ahimbisibwe urged Christians to remain committed to supporting the new parishes and archdeaconries, commended their desire for more churches, and questioned why they should be trampled upon when willing to support God’s Kingdom.
“I commend believers’ desire to see more churches established in communities. Why should Christians be trampled upon when they are willing to support the expansion of God’s Kingdom?” he added.
Meanwhile, the South Ankole Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Canon Alfred Turyamureeba, welcomed the development, saying the new churches would make it easier for elderly Christians and others who struggle to walk long distances to access church services and sacraments.
Rev. Canon Turyamureeba also noted that the creation of new parishes and archdeaconries would provide opportunities for the promotion of clergy within the Diocese.
