Police Probe Murder of Kasese Builder Found Dead in Bed

Police in Kasese have launched intensive investigations following the gruesome murder of builder Thomas Mbalabahi, 34, whose decomposed body was recovered from his residence in Kyambogho Cell on Saturday. The discovery was made by a client who had visited to commission his services, only to find him lifeless in bed. A postmortem examination at Bwera Hospital Mortuary confirmed strangulation, and authorities have since called on residents of Kyambogho and Nyabugando to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

The deceased has been identified as Thomas Mbalabahi, 34, a resident of Kyambogho Cell, Mpondwe Lhubiriha Town Council, whose lifeless body was recovered at around 10:00 PM on Saturday following a grim search by a concerned colleague.

Reliable sources indicate that the tragic discovery was made when one Muhunga Geofrey, a local resident, visited Nyabugando Trading Center seeking the deceased’s services.

Geofrey, who had scheduled the deceased to plaster his house on Monday, August 31, 2026, reached the victim’s home to find the door open. After fruitless calls, he ventured inside, only to find Mbalabahi lying dead in his bed.

The shaken visitor immediately informed neighbours and area Chairman Muhindo Jacob, who acted without delay, relaying the tragic report to Police. Authorities promptly initiated the investigative machinery into the tragedy.

Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that Police officers swiftly retrieved the body and transported it to Bwera Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Maate added that after a thorough postmortem exercise, the medical report indicated that the deceased had been strangled to death, leading police to classify the case as murder by strangulation and initiate intensive inquiries.

“Upon the grim discovery and notification, our officers swiftly retrieved the body and conveyed it to Bwera Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. The medical report established strangulation as the cause of death, and we have classified it as murder by strangulation as intensive investigations continue,” Maate noted.

Police have since appealed to the public, particularly residents of Kyambogho and Nyabugando areas, to come forward with any information that could assist in tracing the suspects and bringing them to justice.
