Reliable sources allege that the thugs descended upon the unsuspecting guard, striking him on the head with a heavy blunt object with such force that he lost consciousness instantly.
The assailants, in a swift and cowardly act, wrested his official company rifle, complete with one round of live ammunition, from the unconscious guard and promptly disappeared into the night, leaving behind a scene of chaos and unanswered questions.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, noted that the forensic officers’ team combed the area for vital clues while the victim was rushed to a nearby medical facility to receive treatment for severe head trauma.
Tumushime condemned the practice of single deployments, urged security firms to conduct thorough risk assessments before deployment, and called for improved welfare and safety measures, including the provision of whistles, torches, and radio calls for guards.
“We strongly condemn this heinous act. It is deeply concerning that security guards are being left as easy targets. As Police, we condemn acts of single deployments of private security guards. The security companies should always conduct security assessments of the premises before deployment,” stated SP Tumushime.
The police spokesperson further appealed to anyone with information about the incident to report to the police, thus emphasizing that collective action is essential to ensure the criminals are apprehended and brought to justice.
