KISORO – The 40-year-old man tragically lost his life on Saturday evening along the Kisoro-Kabale Highway after being struck by a speeding semi-trailer while attempting to cross the road.

The deceased has been identified as Erasto Iratanga, a resident of Kibande Village, Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Sub-county, Bufumbira East Constituency in Kisoro District.

Iratanga died instantly in an accident that occurred at around 6:30 p.m. after he was hit by an unidentified trailer barreling towards Kisoro Town, near Chananke Trading Centre.

Eyewitnesses allege that the truck was moving at a high speed and ran over the deceased, causing severe head injuries that led to his death on the spot.

Residents at the scene expressed outrage over the driver’s reckless maneuvering in the area and their continued disregard for pedestrians on the road, calling the actions both cowardly and inhumane.

“We have begged for speed bumps. We have begged for police patrols. We have begged for anything that reminds these truckers we are people, not pigeons to be scattered. But no one listens. They just wash the blood away and wait for the next one,” residents lamented.

Meanwhile, officers from Kisoro CPS quickly responded to the scene, retrieved and transported the body to the Kisoro Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted.

The yet-to-be-identified semi-trailer in question was allegedly intercepted by authorities at the Nyakabande Police Post and has since been impounded and parked at Kisoro Central Police Station (CPS).
