RUKIGA, UGANDA – A man in Rukiga District has surrendered himself to the authorities after allegedly brutally murdering his elder sister following an argument over witchcraft.

The incident is believed to have occurred at around 8:00 am on Tuesday , March 31, 2026, at the deceased’s home in Kariba village, Karorwa Parish, Bukinda Sub-county.
Sources allege that the suspect, Wilson, confronted his sister, accusing her of bewitching his family, only for her to reportedly reply that he would see even more problems.
The response is said to have angered the suspect, who was carrying a panga (machete) and allegedly cut his sister on the head three times , killing her instantly.
The Kigezi police spokesperson , ASP Elly Maate, confirmed to the press that the suspect surrendered himself, along with the weapon , to the sub-county chief on realizing his sister had died.
“The suspect accused his sister of bewitching his family. She replied he would see more problems, angering him. Armed with a panga, he allegedly cut her head three times. After she died, he surrendered himself and the weapon to the Bukinda sub-county chief,” said Elly Maate.
The sub-county chief then notified the police, and a team of officers visited and documented the scene of the crime and re-arrested the suspect , currently detained at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Rukiga.
The deceased’s body was conveyed to Kabale regional hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination , as police confirmed their continued inquiries into the matter.
