The deceased has been identified as Leodinas Arineitwe, a resident of Kagunga Cell, Kigyeyo Ward, Rubanda Town Council, whose lifeless body was discovered lying in a pool of blood with deep cut wounds on the head.

According to the Kigezi police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 am on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, at Mukitojo Cell, Kigyeyo Ward, Rubanda Town Council, Rubanda district.

Maate told the press that the incident was notified to the police by the Kagunga area Chairperson, Byamugisha Denis, who alleged he had heard people raising an alarm, suggesting that a suspected thief was being beaten in Mukitojo Cell.

The team of officers from Ikumba Police Station led by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) swiftly responded to the scene and found a large crowd that quickly fled upon seeing the authorities.

Maate added that officers discovered the lifeless body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood with deep cut wounds on the head, along with his motorcycle (UDL373P), placed on top of his body, with a pig tied onto it at the scene.

The forensic team of officers processed and documented the scene, recovering exhibits including two sticks, a piece of an iron bar, a pair of sandals, a pair of canvas shoes, the suspected stolen pig, and the motorcycle.

Police confirmed that the postmortem examination was conducted at the scene and the body has since been handed over to the family for burial arrangements as inquiries into the matter continue.
