KANUNGU, UGANDA – A tea factory cleaner has fell from the factory roof to the interior, struck his head on metal fixtures, sustained a skull fracture, and died instantly in Kanungu.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as Lawrence Niwabine, 47, a resident of Kichwamba cell, Rugyeyo parish in Kanungu district and a worker at the late Garuga’s Rugyeyo tea factory.
The accident occurred on Monday, March 30, 2026, at around 7:45 a.m. at the factory premises in Mishunga cell, Kashojwa parish, Rugyeyo Sub-County in Kanungu district.
Sources have it that Lawrence was cleaning the outside roof when he accidentally stepped on an iron sheet, the nails gave way, and he fell down inside the factory, hit his head on the metals, sustained a crack on the head, and died instantly.
The Kigezi police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and said that the scene was visited, examined, and documented by a team of police officers.
Maate added that the body was conveyed to Rugyeyo Health Center IV for a postmortem and later handed over to the relatives for burial as inquiries into the incident continue.
“The deceased, a factory cleaner, was cleaning the external roof when he stepped on an iron sheet, causing the nails to give way. He fell inside, struck his head on metal structures, and sustained a fatal skull fracture, dying instantly. Our officers rushed to the scene and conveyed the body to a health unit for a postmortem examination,” stated Elly Maate.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson, Elly Maate, urged that factory workers are supposed to be provided with safety gear to take safety precautions to avoid such incidents.
