NTUNGAMO, UGANDA – Three people were confirmed dead, and six others injured, after a Fuso truck ferrying a group of market vendors and their luggage overturned in Ntungamo District.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The incident occurred on Saturday, March 21, 2026, along the Rwekiniro road in Kayenje, claiming the lives of Mukiibi Hakim, 62, alongside two other adult males, Muhoozi Mustafa and Muzafari Kireema.
According to the Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Kasasira Samson, the single-vehicle accident involved a Fuso truck, registration number UAT 371G, that was from Ntungamo town towards Rwekiniro.
Kasasira stated that the driver, who is currently on the run, lost control of the vehicle upon reaching Kayenje, causing it to veer off the road and overturn, resulting in the instant death and injuries of passengers.
The police spokesperson attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving and confirmed that the emergency services responded swiftly to the scene.
The six injured passengers were rushed to various health facilities in the area for medical attention, though the specific medical centers are yet to be disclosed.
The bodies of the deceased were transported to Itojo Hospital mortuary, where they await postmortem examinations while the police are making efforts to conduct a manhunt for the absconded driver and efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident continue.
