KABALE, UGANDA – The newly elected Member of Parliament for Kabale Municipality, Hon. Andrew Aja Baryayanga, has pledged to honor his campaign commitments, vowing to translate his promises into tangible development.

The Kabale District Returning Officer, Ms. Aisha Nansubuga, confirmed Andrew Aja Baryayanga’s victory on Friday, January 16, 2026. He secured 46.13% of the vote, marking a significant shift in the municipality’s political landscape.
The election saw the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate defeat the incumbent MP, Kamara Nicholas of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party, who secured 42.31%.
Other candidates in the race included Aine Jasye of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) with 0.66%, and independent candidates Arineitwe Brian (0.35%), Bakashaba William (1.05%), Muhwezi Alex (0.80%), and Nabasa Dan, who made a strong showing with 8.70% of the vote.
Hon. Baryayanga’s victory marks a notable political transition, moving from an independent representative in the 9th and 10th Parliaments to the ruling NRM party’s flag bearer in the 12th Parliament.
Addressing the press shortly after being declared the winner, Baryayanga reaffirmed his campaign pledges to improve street lighting through the “Kabale City Light Up” initiative and to champion job creation for the area’s youth.
The incoming legislator also committed to directly addressing community concerns by renovating neglected water sources across the municipality.
Hon. Andrew Aja Baryayanga noted that his platform includes a focus on advancing critical road infrastructure by leveraging national programs like the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID).
“This victory is not mine alone; it is a victory for every resident of Kabale Municipality who believes in progress and accountability. The trust you have placed in me is a mandate to act. I will be a vocal and active representative in the 12th Parliament to ensure our development agenda is fulfilled,” Baryayanga stated.
Constituents are expressing cautious optimism as the municipality prepares for its new term, with the full political transition awaiting the incumbent’s formal concession and his call for supporters to back the incoming MP for unity and development.
