Presiding as the main celebrant at the Authority’s end-of-year thanksgiving ceremony on Thursday at Rwenzori Towers in Kampala, the Archbishop praised the FIA’s dedicated work while issuing a clear moral charge to its workforce.

“You are entrusted with significant resources and sensitive information. Upholding honesty, integrity, and accountability is not just professional; it is a service to God and the nation,” Archbishop Kaziimba stated.

He emphasized the importance of unity and vigilance within the organization, urging staff to “work as a team, avoid mistrust, and resist any form of collusion that could allow fraudsters to compromise the Authority’s systems.”

The Archbishop further commended the FIA for its critical efforts in safeguarding Uganda’s financial system by combating money laundering, fraud, and terrorism financing.

The FIA’s Executive Director, Mr. Samuel Were Wandera, highlighted enhanced strategic efforts to strengthen joint initiatives aimed at curbing tax evasion and illicit financial flows.

Wandera also praised his team’s vigilant and committed work, stating that their dedication is essential for fulfilling the agency’s crucial mandate to safeguard Uganda’s economic security and integrity.

“My team’s commitment, working with ears and eyes open, is what transforms our crucial mandate for Uganda’s economic security into tangible results,” Wandera said.

Established under the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2013, the FIA serves as Uganda’s central agency for monitoring financial transactions, enforcing anti-money laundering laws, and coordinating with law enforcement to combat financial crimes.

Its core mandate includes combating money laundering, countering the financing of terrorism, and countering proliferation financing.

The year-end ceremony served as both a reflection on the year’s achievements and a spiritual reinforcement of the ethical foundations required for the Authority’s sensitive and impactful work.
