KABALE, UGANDA – The Uganda Police Force has recruited 4,724 special election constables in Kigezi to reinforce security before, during, and after the upcoming national elections. The constables have been hired on a three-month contract.

Maate stated that Rukungiri District leads with 1,158 recruits, followed by Kisoro (998), Kanungu (884), Kabale (730), Rubanda (670), and Rukiga (284).
The recruitment is designed to provide localized security support. The recruits are set to begin an intensive two-week training program on Monday, December 8, 2025.
The training will be conducted at three centrally located venues within the region to ensure efficiency and cohesion.
Training will be held at Kigezi College Butobere for recruits from Kabale and Rukiga, Kisoro Primary Teachers’ College (PTC) for those from Kisoro and Rubanda, and Nyakina Primary School for recruits from Rukungiri and Kanungu.
“This special cohort will undergo a two-week training program at three centers across Kigezi: Kigezi College Butobere, Kisoro PTC, and Nyakina Primary School,” said Maate.
Maate further advised recruits to avoid bringing unnecessary luggage to prevent congestion and ensure a smooth and effective training period.
The deployment of these specially trained constables is expected to significantly bolster law enforcement presence, deter potential disruptions, and ensure orderly electoral exercises.
