KABALE, UGANDA – Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 35-year-old casual labourer who was fatally struck on the head with a stone during an assault on Monday evening.

Reports indicate that on November 3, 2025, at around 9:30 PM, the deceased became involved in a quarrel with Mugarura Kelesesio at Natuhwera Papius’s bar in Omwiryaniro Trading Centre, Kibingwe cell.
The altercation escalated into an assault in which Kelesesio and others allegedly struck Wensi on the head with a stone, inflicting a deep injury that caused him to bleed profusely.
A local resident,Twikirize Nicholas, reported he was awakened by an alarm and, upon investigating, found the deceased lying in front of his house with Mugarura Kelesesio standing nearby.
In his account, Mugarura Kelesesio alleged that the deceased had first injured him on the nose with a stone. Following this, other individuals, including the deceased’s own brother, responded to the scene.
He was transported to Rubaya Health Centre IV for initial treatment before being referred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital,but he succumbed to his injuries en route, prompting the return of his body to the scene.
The Kigezi region Police spokesperson,ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the registration of a murder case at Ryakarimira Police Station and stated that a Kabale Police team had visited, processed, and documented the scene.
Maate confirmed that a postmortem was conducted at the scene, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Mugarura Kelesesio and the bar owner, Natuhwera Papius, for questioning.
Police have collected an exhibit of a stone and extracted blood samples from the deceased’s body and from the scene for forensic analysis and the investigations into the matter are ongoing.
