KISORO, UGANDA – The newly elected Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) in Kisoro District have pledged to promote health activities and improve sanitation within their communities upon the completion of their six-month training program.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The training is being attended by 142 participants, both male and female, who were elected in a vote held from September 1, 2025, to September 14, 2025, from various areas across the district.
The program is funded by The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) in collaboration with the Uganda Ministry of Health.
Currently, the training is in its second week, and several male participants have expressed satisfaction with the training, describing it as enjoyable and informative.
They reported gaining valuable knowledge on child care, early childhood education, and how to promote health and sanitation practices within their communities.

Female participants highlighted their learning experiences, including how to prepare vegetable gardens, improve women’s hygiene, construct latrines a safe distance from homes, enhance family nutrition, and build drying racks for utensils.
They also emphasized the importance of encouraging pregnant women to attend antenatal care early in their pregnancies, a key message they plan to spread in their communities.

Kisoro District Assistant Health Officer, Annet Dusabe, noted that no participants have dropped out of the program so far and praised the trainees for their discipline and active participation during lectures.
Dusabe added that they are currently still covering introductory modules and will proceed to more advanced topics in the coming weeks.
