NTUNGAMO, UGANDA – The Bishop of the South Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe, alongside school administrators, has implored parents to view education as a non-negotiable investment in their children’s future.

The appeal was made during a special dedication prayer service for Ordinary and Advanced Level candidates at Rubaare Secondary School on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

The solemn service, charged with anticipation, brought together 393 candidates 258 from Senior Four and 135 from Senior Six to spiritually dedicate them to their studies and their forthcoming national examinations later this year.

Presiding over the ceremony, Bishop Ahimbisibwe commended parents for their immense sacrifices and “esteemed spirit” in securing loans and finding other means to pay school fees.

“We appreciate the immense sacrifices parents make to keep their children in school. Your esteemed spirit to secure loans and find means to pay fees is truly commendable. Your commitment is the bedrock upon which your children’s future is built,” said Bishop Ahimbisibwe.

The school’s headteacher, Mrs. Monic Mpeirwe Atukunda, reinforced this message, warning that neglecting education cripples progress and prevents families from achieving their dreams.

She emphasized that a solid educational foundation is the cornerstone of personal and communal advancement, essential for unlocking opportunities in today’s world.

Lay Canon Ezekiel Tumwesigye, the Chairperson of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), led the congregation in thanking the “Almighty God” for guiding the school through numerous hardships

Canon Tumwesigye attributed the school’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and a devastating fire that gutted the boys’ dormitory on November 15, 2025, to “God’s mercy and the support of well-wishers.”

The Chairperson of the Board of Governors, Venerable Rev. Can. Joram Akoragye, echoed the PTA chairperson’s sentiments, acknowledging the school’s resilience in overcoming these challenges while remaining operational and committed to its mission.

The event at Rubaare Secondary School reflects a national academic milestone, as over 1.4 million candidates across the country are preparing to sit for their final examinations this academic year, according to the Uganda National Examinations Board.
