KISORO, UGANDA – Leaders and aspiring candidates of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) in Kisoro District have been urged to bankroll their own campaigns for the 2026 general elections.

The directive was issued during a party meeting at Bamboo Gardens in Kisoro Municipality, where senior officials cited a lack of funds to support grassroots campaigns.

The call for self-reliance was a central theme at the gathering, which also focused on fostering unity and addressing the challenges of operating in a politically tense environment.

Setting the tone, Kisoro District PFF Chairperson Vicent Mushakamba called for unity among party members in his opening remarks. He outlined significant challenges, pinpointing severe financial constraints and ongoing harassment from security agencies.

Fred Turyamuhweza, the PFF Governor for the Kigezi region, echoed this sentiment, framing the party’s struggle as a fight for core principles including freedom, dignity, shared prosperity, equal opportunities, and fundamental rights for all Ugandans.

He urged aspiring leaders not to be cowed by security agencies but to courageously champion the party’s manifesto.

“Do not be intimidated by security agencies but instead champion the party’s manifesto and mission of liberating Ugandans from unfavorable conditions,” Turyamuhweza urged.

He delivered the pivotal message on campaign financing, encouraging aspirants to take the initiative and finance their own campaigns rather than waiting for unavailable party support.

Kenneth Geoffrey Opoka, the co-founder of the PFF, praised the resolve of leaders in Kisoro who have chosen to carry the party’s flag despite intimidation.

He acknowledged that both current and aspiring leaders are the essential faces and voices of the PFF in the district and urged them to exercise extra caution.

In a bold statement, Geoffrey declared that the ruling government does not fear other established opposition parties like the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) or the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

“The ruling government does not fear other opposition parties, but it fears the People’s Front for Freedom. That is why our leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye, is detained,” Geoffrey stated.

The meeting concluded with a reinforced sense of purpose, with leaders vowing to push forward with their campaigns despite financial and political obstacles, framing their struggle as a vital fight for Uganda’s future.
