The suspects held in custody include Twesigomwe Brian, a 29-year-old boda boda rider, and Kamusiime Justine, 53, both residents of Kateramo village, Bugangari Parish, Bugangari Sub County, in Rukungiri District.

The two are alleged to have knowledge about the killing of Denis Atuhaire, 28, a fellow villager whose body was discovered by his grandmother, Tibivamunda Dinavence.

According to a statement provided by Tibivamunda Dinavence, the deceased had attended a party at the home of a neighbor, Alex Ngabirano, on the evening of July 19, 2025.

Dinavence confirmed that her grandson was last seen alive at the party at 8:00 p.m and when she returned home at midnight, found the door to the Deceased’s room open.

She saw him lying face down on his bed but assumed he was asleep, only to discover his lifeless body with severe head injuries and bloodstained bedding the next morning at 7:00 a.m. on July 20, 2025.

“My grandson attended a neighbor’s party on July 19th and was last seen alive at 8 p.m. When I returned at midnight, I found him face down on his bed I thought he was sleeping. This morning, I discovered his shattered skull and blood everywhere,” Tibivamunda stated.

Upon making the gruesome discovery, Tibivamunda immediately alerted the area chairman, Kubiriba Odomaro, who advised her to report the matter to the police.

Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that the case was registered at Bugangari Police Station, where officers processed the crime scene, documented evidence, and arrested two suspects to aid investigations.

The body of the deceased was retrieved and transported to Bugangari Health Center IV mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

“Our forensic teams have completed a thorough processing of the crime scene, documenting critical evidence that will aid this investigation. The victim’s body has been transported to Bugangari Health Center IV mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause and circumstances of death. While we have two suspects in custody, our investigators are pursuing multiple angles to establish a clear motive for this brutal attack,” said Maate.

Police say the motive for the killing remains unclear but could involve personal disputes or a crime of opportunity, with forensic teams examining bloodstains and other evidence as authorities appeal for public information.
