The President made the commitment while presiding over the Heroes’ Day celebrations on June 9, 2025, in Lyantonde District, a region that played a significant role in Uganda’s liberation struggle.

President Museveni expressed concern that some individuals in the armed forces, national service, and other sectors have not yet received their pensions, despite their significant contributions to the country.

He vowed to monitor the issue and ensure that the deserving heroes receive their compensation as a sign of appreciation for their services to Uganda.

The President pledged to investigate the disappearance of funds allocated to the heroes and punish those responsible, aiming to ensure accountability and transparency in managing funds for national heroes’ welfare.

The theme for this year’s celebration was “The Legacy and Ideals of Our Heroes: A Memorable Inspiration,” highlighting the lasting impact of the nation’s heroes on its development and progress.

During the celebrations, seven police officers were recognized and awarded medals for their outstanding service in the Force.

Among the officers includ: CP Ecega Richard, Commander of the Kampala Metropolitan Police, who received the Diamond Jubilee Medal, while SSP Kavuma Henry and Sgt. Turyakira Rose Margaret were awarded the Long Service Gold Medal for their dedication and years of service.

Others are Sergeant Mwende Godfrey (RIP) and Cpl. Obala Bilal (RIP) were posthumously awarded the Personal Sacrifice Medal for their bravery and sacrifices in the line of duty, the Corporal Mukisa Charles and PC Ongier Chan Walter received the Gallantry Star Medal for their acts of bravery.

State Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister for the Luweero Triangle and Rwenzori Region, Hon. Alice Kaboyo, expressed gratitude to the President for attending the celebrations.

“I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to you, Your Excellency, for sparing time out of your busy schedule to celebrate the 36th National Heroes Anniversary. Your presence is a profound honor and a reaffirmation of your commitment to recognize and preserve the legacy of our heroes,” Hon. Kaboyo said.

Hon. Kaboyo also thanked the team at the Office of the Prime Minister and the National Organizing Committee for their hard work in ensuring the success of the National Heroes Anniversary.

The celebrations served as a reminder of the importance of honoring the nation’s heroes and the values they stood for, and the government’s commitment to recognizing and preserving their legacy.
