Rubaare Road Project Back on Track After Months of Delay

Ntungamo, Uganda – Rubaare Town Council has resumed work on a 1.116km road project valued at UGX 900 million, aimed at improving the town’s infrastructure, which was stalled due to delayed funds from the central government.

According to the Town Clerk, Mr. Emmanuel Byamukama, the project was halted due to the phased funding from the central government.

The 1.116km road project connects seamlessly with the Ntungamo-Kabaale highway, starting from a critical juncture near Leisure Village and looping back onto the main highway, thereby enhancing connectivity and accessibility in the area.

The road works encompass a range of activities, including bush clearing, grading, excavation, gravelling, priming, road sealing, chipping, and drainage improvement, with necessary materials like stone dust, aggregates, and culverts already stockpiled along the site.

Mr. Byamukama dismissed allegations of embezzlement, stating that the project is in its final stage and will soon be commissioned by the authorities. He emphasized that the delayed completion is solely due to funding delays.

The Rubaare Town Council Speaker, Mr. Benson Karaara, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting that the delayed completion is attributed to the delayed allocation of road machines.

He explained that the government’s policy prohibits the council from hiring road machines, thereby exacerbating delays and hindering the project’s timely completion.

With the resumption of work, the residents of Rubaare are hopeful that the project will be completed soon, improving their transportation infrastructure and overall quality of life.
