The suspects, identified as Turyahabwe Benson, his wife Christina Turyahabwe, and others, are believed to have been involved in the murder of Muhumuza Robert, alias Muja, a resident of Ruyonja cell, Nyarushanje sub-county.

According to sources, Muja and Mwesigwa Hillary spent the evening of June 2, 2025, drinking together at Nyarushanje trading centre before deciding to sleep at Mwesigwa’s residence.

The suspects allegedly knocked on the door, tied up Mwesigwa and Muja, and assaulted them over the coffee theft allegations.

Although Akampa Felix, Mwesigwa’s brother, interrupted the assault, Muja tragically succumbed to his injuries, and his body was discovered by Mwesigwa Hillary the following afternoon.

ASP Elly Maate, Kigezi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the police were informed and a case of murder was registered at Rubabo police station.

The officers launched an investigation, visiting and documenting evidence at the crime scene, recording witness statements, examining Mwesigwa Hillary, and conducting a postmortem.

“We are aware of the murder incident involving 28-year-old Muhumuza Robert, alias Muja, a resident of Ruyonja cell, Nyarushanje sub-county, Rukungiri district. The suspects, including Ikondere cell area Chairperson Turyahabwe Benson, his wife Christina Turyahabwe, and others, are currently on the run, but we are actively pursuing them,” said Elly Maate.
