The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 PM in the Biwanga area and involved an Isuzu bus, UBR 796N, belonging to Pokopoko Company.

The Traffic and Road Safety Directorate spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, confirmed that preliminary reports indicate the driver lost control of the vehicle following a tyre burst.

The bus veered off the road and overturned, claiming the lives of two passengers (one adult female and one juvenile female) and leaving 12 others with injuries who were rushed to Mubende hospital for treatment.

Michael Kananura urged motorists to prioritize vehicle safety before embarking on their journeys, regularly checking tyre condition and ensuring that they are within the recommended expiry dates.

“This accident is a result of a tyre burst that caused the driver to lose control, and the bus veered off the road and overturned. We urge motorists to prioritize vehicle safety before embarking on their journeys. Regularly checking tyre condition and ensuring that they are within the recommended expiry dates can significantly enhance safety on the roads,” Kananura noted.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent such accidents.
