UPDF, Million Trees International Organization Partner to Promote Environmental Conservation

Kampala, Uganda -The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has expressed gratitude to the Million Trees International Organization for their continued support towards Tarehe Sita and Defence Forces Week activities.

This year’s celebrations mark the 44th anniversary of the UPDF and are being held in the Greater Masaka Sub-Region and the trees will also enable effective monitoring and evaluation.

While receiving the donation of 150,000 tree seedlings at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters, Mbuya, the Director of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), Brig Gen Michael Kibuye expressed gratitude for the organization’s steadfast support of the Million Trees Organisation.

Kibuye, further commended the Million Trees International Organisation (Greening Uganda Campaign) for donating an assortment of indigenous trees for planting during the upcoming Tarehe Sita celebrations in the Greater Masaka Sub-Region.

The discussions during the meeting underscored the importance of the donated trees, which are to be planted in gazetted areas, including barracks, to promote environmental conservation and enable effective monitoring and evaluation.

Dr. Jibril Semakula Owomugisha, the Founding Director of Million Trees International Organization (Greening Uganda Campaign), expressed gratitude for the strong partnership between the organization and the UPDF which began in 2021.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Director of Defence Public Information (D/DDPI), Col Deo Akiiki, senior UPDF officers, and representatives from the Million Trees International Organisation, including Tushabe Moses Rwomushana and Lubega Boaz.
