The suspects identified as Mwesigwa Rashid, Turinawe Beda, and Niwagaba Nicholas, all residents of Buhara in Kabale District are accused of killing Kawiti Africano.

The suspects allegedly killed Africano, who had bought a piece of land from Mwesigwa Rashid in 2023 for UGX 4,000,000.

The land, measuring approximately 40 ft x 90 ft, was reportedly sold at a price that the family considered too low.

Rashid faced resistance from his family members, who demanded that he retrieve the land or purchase another piece of land to replace it.

When the suspects approached Africano to return the land, he allegedly refused and instead asked for a refund.

They resorted to threats and violence and use of force to regain back their land which gave birth to earlier offences of criminal trespass vide Buhara SD 06/07/10/2024 which was still under Investigations.

The suspects Turinawe Beda and Niwagaba Nicholas on Tuesday in wee hours attacked the deceased and told him to leave the land their father (Mwesigwa Rashid) sold to him that if he refuses he will die.

After receiving threats, Africano (the deceased) went and reported to Mwesigwa and asked him together with his sons to stop threatening him.

At that night Africano was murdered and his body was discovered by Abe Julius a neighbor, informed the area chairperson who reported the matter at Buhara police station.

The Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed to this reporter that the OC Buhara notified the District CID officer Kabale who led a team of homicide and canine officers to the scene.

The Canine Dog Sniffer was introduced to the scene that led the officers direct to the house of the suspects and apprehended them instantly.

Maate added that the scene was examined and documented, Postmortem done and relevant Statements recorded from witnesses and inquiries still at hand.

The deceased whose body was found with bruises and had internal bleeding is said to have had a long land dispute with the suspects.
