NATIONAL: In a bid to enhance its steel production capabilities, Uganda’s Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development (Minerals), Phiona Nyamutoro, has chaired a sub-committee comprising representatives from key government ministries.

To support this initiative, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has embarked on a licensing review.
The move is designed to create an environment conducive to progressive investments, ultimately enhancing the sector’s growth and development.
The collaborative effort between government ministries demonstrates a commitment to driving economic growth through strategic investments in Uganda’s iron ore and steel sectors.
The development is particularly significant, given Uganda’s aspiration to become an upper-middle-income country by 2040, with the iron and steel industry playing a crucial role in achieving this vision.
