KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Electoral Commission of Uganda (EC) has scheduled Tuesday, January 27, 2026, for the parliamentary elections in three constituencies where voting was previously suspended.

The announcement was issued in a press release dated January 23, 2026, and signed by the Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama.

The exercise aims to finalize the direct election of Members of Parliament in specific electoral areas within the districts of Kiryandongo, Ibanda, and Alebtong.

Voting in Kibanda North Constituency in Kiryandongo District and Ibanda Municipality in Ibanda District was suspended due to errors found on the ballot papers, according to the EC.

EC Chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama explained that the decision resulted from the discovery of mismatches in candidate particulars printed on the ballots, which invalidated the original materials.

The Commission also ordered a fresh election in 18 polling stations in Awei Sub-county, Alebtong District, located in northern Uganda, following complaints of vote rigging and inconsistencies in the tallying process during the initial polling.

The contested results from the parishes of Awiri, Acece, Ojul, and Owalo were challenged by a parliamentary candidate who argued that the declared figures did not match those recorded at the polling stations.

The parliamentary race for Ajuri County in Alebtong features five candidates, including incumbent Denis Hamson Obua (NRM), Fred Jalameso (UPC), Emmanuel Ongom Okwel (FDC), and independents Stephen Omara and Jasper Molo.

Polling stations will open at 7:00 AM and close at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, with voting taking place at all stations in Ibanda Municipality and Kibanda North Constituency, as well as the 18 specified stations in Awei Sub-county, Alebtong District.

The Electoral Commission has called upon all participating political parties and independent candidates to strictly adhere to electoral guidelines.

The announcement provides long-awaited clarity for voters and candidates in the impacted regions, setting a definitive path to conclude an electoral process left in suspense.
