KISORO, UGANDA – The Legislator for Bufumbira North constituency in Kisoro District, Hon. Kamara John Nizeyimana, has vowed to go to court, citing numerous electoral irregularities that marred the recent polls.

Hon. Kamara said this on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, while addressing the press at Kumudege Business Centre. He extended his heartfelt commendation to the voters who turned out to exercise their democratic right.

The legislator emphasized that the alleged malpractices occurred after the voting had concluded and his supporters had begun celebrating an anticipated victory.

He expressed deep concern over the community’s distress, noting many disillusioned voters are now confined to their homes, frustrated by official results they believe betray the public will.

The legislator revealed the matter has not been ignored, as higher authorities are working to ensure voters’ rights are respected by reviewing the election outcome.

Hon. Kamara outlined potential resolutions to the crisis, stating they could range from a targeted re-election in affected areas to a broader by-election across the entire constituency.

“I am relying on higher authorities who are working hard to ensure voters’ rights are respected by reviewing the election outcome. Possible resolutions could involve a re-election in specifically affected areas or a broader by-election across the entire constituency,” stated MP Kamara.

Hon. Kamara issued a two-fold call to action to voters, urging calm and a high turnout for the upcoming district Local Council elections and encouraging vigilance to safeguard the integrity of every ballot.

The announced Bufumbira North results indicated that Hon. Fortunate Habyara of the NRM won with 8,374 votes, followed by Hon. Kamara John Nizeyimana, an Independent candidate, who got 8,289 votes and Hon. Daniel Ngirabakuzi of the DP party came third with 63 votes.
