The deceased has been identified as Taremwa Hillary, 25, a mechanic and resident of Kabaare Cell, Butare Ward, Muhanga Town Council in Rukiga District.

Reliable sources indicate that the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025, in Kabaare Village, Rukiga District.

The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary reports indicate Taremwa was walking home from Kakatunda Trading Centre when the tragedy occurred.

“It is alleged that the victim was walking in the middle of the road when an unknown vehicle knocked him down, and he died on the spot,” Maate said.

He added that the scene was visited by the District Traffic Officer for Rukiga, ASP J. Bosco Rubango, who was assisted by Sgt. George Birihanyomyo. The body was taken to Mparo Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

Police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with information about the vehicle, the driver, or the incident to come forward.
