Mr. Bamugaya made the remarks on Thursday during an event hosting the Lions Club President of Uganda at the Rubirizi branch.

The event, held under the theme “Expanding Our Reach, Deepening Our Impact,” took place at the Residence Gardens in Kizurugo Village, Rubirizi District.

He explained that the international organization provides grants to empower volunteers and partners to promote health, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian service.

He reaffirmed the Rubirizi Lions Club’s commitment to supporting the Government of Uganda’s environmental programs through tree planting, reforestation, and sustainable community development.

The President of the Lions Club of Rubirizi, Ms. Rosebel Kwesiga Akiki Tumusiime, outlined the club’s broad mission to support vulnerable families, the needy, and the youth, revealing they have positively impacted more than 13,700 people in the district to date.

She detailed partnerships with the government to improve sanitation, health, education, and road safety, alongside initiatives for hunger relief, diabetes awareness, childhood cancer care, and disaster response.

Ms. Tumusiime highlighted the club’s impact, noting recent outreaches to Rugazi Health Centre IV and Katerera Health Centre III where they provided donations to support mothers and children, alongside sanitation and hygiene promotion activities.

“Our visits to Rugazi Health Centre IV and Katerera Health Centre III supported over 70 mothers and 100 children with donations of soap, sugar, and salt. We also promoted sanitation and hygiene through cleaning activities and community sensitization,” Tumusiime said.

Hon. Cadet Benjamin Buturo, the NRM Flagbearer for Bunyaruguru Constituency, praised the Rubirizi Lions Club members for their unity, selfless service, and teamwork.

He demonstrated his support with a cash contribution of UGX 2 million to the Rubirizi Lions Club and UGX 1 million to Lions Club International in support of its ongoing charity activities, pledging more assistance in the future.

He also praised the club’s donation of road safety jackets to boda boda riders and vulnerable community members, noting that such initiatives align with government efforts to reduce accidents and advance UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Minister for Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi, who is also a member of the Rubirizi Lions Club, thanked members for their contributions to the club’s success.

He paid special tribute to the founding members; Lion Vincent Bamugaya, Lion Rosebel Kwesiga, and Lion Godfrey Katsimbazi, crediting their pioneering initiative for creating a lasting legacy of humanitarian work in the community.

The President of Lions Club Uganda, Lion Tush Naturinda, commended the Rubirizi branch for its remarkable growth and community engagement in a short time.

She revealed that the club was officially chartered on January 19, 2024, with 39 members and has since grown to 62 fully subscribed members, with eight more in the process of joining.
