KISORO, UGANDA – Bufumbira North MP, Hon. Kamara John Nizeyimana, has pledged to spearhead enhanced trade dialogues with East African and international partners, centering on the commercial cultivation and sale of African Birds Eye Chili (pili pili).

Hon. Nizeyimana revealed that his office is actively working to establish robust market linkages not only within Uganda but also in Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Furthermore, he announced ambitious plans to tap into the lucrative European market, where the spice is in high demand for its unique pungency and flavour.
“Training on the best practices for cultivating pili pili is currently underway at the Kumudege Business Centre to ensure our farmers are well-equipped for success,” Hon. Nizeyimana stated.
To ensure the project’s viability, the MP unveiled a substantial logistical plan, announcing the intention to employ over 50 agricultural extension workers dedicated to supporting farmers from planting to harvest.
Each officer will be provided with a motorcycle to facilitate effective monitoring, offer timely advice, and track the progress of the chili farms across the region.
Looking ahead, Hon. Nizeyimana projected the first commercial harvest for early January 2026, framing the entire project as a sustainable engine for poverty alleviation.
The project has been met with optimism by local leaders and residents, who see it as a concrete step towards economic empowerment and a diversification of the area’s agricultural output.
