Kisoro Uganda – As Uganda prepares to commemorate Heroes Day, religious and political leaders are urging citizens to reflect on the contributions of key figures who have shaped the country’s history.

According to Rtd Rev. Canon Esau Muruta, who served in the Muhabura Diocese for over 28 years, Heroes Day is an opportunity to honor those who have made positive impacts on the country, while also acknowledging the negative actions of others.

Canon Muruta noted that while people often celebrate the achievements of leaders who have promoted peace, security, unity, stability, infrastructure, and religious development, they often overlook or fail to acknowledge those who have caused harm.

He emphasized that Heroes Day should also serve as a reminder to Ugandans to resist corruption, which hinders development despite the government’s commitment to advancing the country.

Former Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Tress Bucanayandi, echoed similar sentiments, urging the youth to reflect on the true meaning of Heroes Day.

He encouraged young people to work hard and make meaningful contributions to society, so that they can be remembered for their achievements in the future.

Hon. Bucanayandi also expressed concern about the behavior of some youth, condemning those who engage in substance abuse, such as opium and excessive alcohol consumption, which can negatively impact their future.

He appealed to young people who still have the opportunity to pursue their education to stay in school and take advantage of the chance to build a better future for themselves.
