Kapchorwa, Uganda – A devastating road crash involving a truck transporting cows and people on top along the Kapchorwa-Mbale Highway has claimed the lives of 9 people.
The incident occurred at about 12:40 pm on Wednesday, May 6, 2025, near Kapwachiti, and is believed to have been caused by the driver losing control on a slope due to brake failure.
The Traffic Police Spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, confirmed to the media that preliminary reports indicate the truck’s brake failure caused it to overturn.
Kananura said the tragic accident resulted in the loss of 9 lives and injured 3 others, all of whom were passengers on the vehicle.
He further urged all truck drivers to adhere to safety regulations and refrain from transporting passengers on top of cargo.
“Preliminary reports indicate that brake failure led to a vehicle overturning on a slope, resulting in 9 fatalities and 3 injuries. The vehicle was carrying cows and passengers on top. We urge all drivers to prioritize safety, adhere to regulations, and avoid transporting passengers on cargo,” Kananura stated.
