Kampala, Uganda – One Kajjansi armed robber was neutralized, and another goes at large after foiling an aggravated robbery on Friday, April 11, 2025, in Lweza Cell A, Ndejje Division, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.

Sources indicate that around 6:20 PM, two unidentified men on a motorcycle (UGG 774A), armed with an AK-47 rifle, attacked a parked Toyota Premio (UBE 079Z) outside N & M Unisex Salon, shattering the vehicle’s windows and stealing two bags.

During their escape, the suspects were confronted by boda boda rider Tumwesigye Peter, 27, and another individual, Abdul Swabur, 18, both of whom were shot and injured by the suspects.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, a joint effort by boda boda riders, local residents, and police led to the pursuit and neutralization of one suspect.

Owoyesigyire confirmed the recovery of items at the scene, which include an AK-47 rifle used in the commission of the crime, a red Haojue Motorcycle (UGG 774A) used by the suspects to flee, along with a cartridge.

Other items recovered include a national ID suspected to belong to one of the assailants, two mobile phones, a red bag that was used to conceal the firearm, and a black bag with a ring spanner belonging to the victim.

Luke Owoyesigyire added that both Peter and Swabur, who were shot and injured by the robbers during the confrontation, were taken to Mildmay Hospital. Swabur was later referred to Mulago Referral Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

He further commended the swift response of the community and boda boda riders in foiling the robbery, noting that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect.

“I want to commend the boda boda riders and local people for working with our officers to foil the robbery. Our officers neutralized one suspected armed robber in Lweza Cell A. Despite the suspects shooting and injuring two people, our collaborative efforts led to the mission’s failure.” Luke Owoyesigyire.

The Uganda Police Force has recently launched the Sub-County Policing Model (SCPM), a strategic initiative designed to decentralize policing services and enhance community security nationwide.
