Kanungu, Uganda – The Kanungu district RDC, Ambrose Mwesigye, emphasized the critical role of water conservation and sustainability in water projects.
This emphasis was made on Thursday, April 3, 2025, as the keynote speaker at the Kanungu District World Water Day celebration at St. Kagwa Primary School in Bushura Parish, Kirima Subcounty, Migyera.
The event was held under the theme “Water and Environment Resources for Enhanced Resilience and Improved Incomes and Livelihoods” and concluded Sanitation Week with the theme “Sanitation with Dignity and Inclusiveness”.

Ambrose highlighted water as an essential resource for human survival, stressing the need for its protection and encouraging communities to oversee water sources and preserve natural resources through good land use practices.
“Water is essential for our human survival, so I would like to charge everyone to protect water sources and preserve natural resources through good land use practices,” said Ambrose Mwesigye.
Attending the function, Kanungu District LC V Chairperson Sam Arinaitwe emphasized water’s importance in households and the broader community, appreciating development partners for their support in hygiene and sanitation initiatives.
Mr. Kamahanga, the LCIII Chairman of Kirima Subcounty, expressed gratitude to the RDC and the District for constructing the gravity flow scheme in Migyera.
He highlighted the lack of a government school and electricity in Migyera, calling for the construction of a separate toilet for girls at St. Kagwa Primary School and urging the District Council to address these issues.
The District Water Officer, Eng. Nsamba Best Henry, provided a detailed summary of the water scheme, noting it began in the 2023/2024 financial year and is designed to serve 3,000 people, with a projection to serve 6,500 by 2044.


The celebration recognized individuals and organizations for their exceptional contributions to sanitation practices in Kirima and Kihembe Sub- Counties.
